Skype is available as a software download on a variety of platforms from smartphones, to computers, and even tablets. After switching hands of ownership a few times, Microsoft came to own the brand in 2011. In 2003, the creators of the P2P program Kazaa, developed Skype. One thing that weighs down this application is the fact that users have to rely on their computers and smartphones in order to make internet calls.

Although the pricing Skype offers for some of its paid services, such as Skype Number and Skype WiFi, its free services can be more telling of the software’s overall functionality for simple calling features. Skype is a free service that offers VoIP, voice over IP, software that allows users to connect to others worldwide through video and voice calling.
